(RFIDWorld.ca) HID Global readers have been chosen by the AMCS Group, a  supplier of software solutions to the waste and recycling industry to help customers optimize their waste management processes, reducing costs. HID Global’s technology enables improved data collection reporting and tracking, resulting in an increase in waste collection efficiency and enhanced customer service.

HID Global worked with the AMCS Group to develop a solution that would provide their customers with the most advanced technologically, integrated solution that successfully meets the waste collection industry’s challenges to improve efficiency, reduce costs, enhance customer service and retention, and increase the bottom line. The AMCS Group identified a need for reliable and durable RFID technology to better deliver real-time tracking to ensure accountability for services provided and quick resolution for bin loss or damage.

A number of customers who have implemented AMCS’ RFID solution have reported a drop of 80 percent in call queries within their respective call center. This is a direct result of having vital collection data available at the fingertips of the call center’s staff. HID Global has partnered with AMCS for five years and has developed a custom solution to meet all of AMCS’ needs.

“There has been a huge shift in how the waste management industry manages its business since the introduction of RFID technology,” said Jimmy Martin, chief executive officer with AMCS. “RFID is now an indispensible part of AMCS’ solutions and our future development. Our three main criteria when selecting an RFID tag supplier were durability, quality and responsiveness – HID Global was at the top of this list in all of them.”

HID Global Solution Details

HID Global’s comprehensive range of RFID technology products offered AMCS efficient methods for real-time tracking, providing better read range, higher performance, and a wider variety of tag options. HID’s Standard Bin Tag 125 kHz Unique, the Plug Tag 125 kHz Unique for “specials”, a custom-designed push-in bin tag for steel containers, and OEM reader modules are being deployed as part of AMCS’ solution that it offers its municipality and waste collection business customers.

HID’s RFID technology provides operational advantages to the waste management process. When the tags are embedded into the wheelie bins, readers on garbage trucks can identify the container and the system records the weight of waste. The AMCS system logs the tag’s location and ties it to GPS coordinates. This information is then relayed to the management office to help better guide decisions on route efficiency and fleet optimization. A number of municipal AMCS customers also utilize the RFID technology for recording exceptions such as “missed bin”, “access blocked” and “bin contaminated”.

“We continue to partner closely with AMCS, learning and identifying new opportunities to revolutionize the waste and recycling industry,” said Colin Thorne, EMEA sales director for Identification Technologies with HID Global. “We strive to maintain a true advisory role and supply options tailored to every customer’s need.”

HID’s RFID tags help municipalities and waste removal service organizations optimize data collection speed and integrity, enabling pay-as-you-throw and recycling incentive programs. Bin and container manufacturers can choose from a broad spectrum of LF, HF and UHF passive contactless transponders that provide various levels of resistance to water, chemicals, shock and temperature variation. For field-deployed assets, Bin Tag and Plug Tag transponders install easily into standard nests, including metal and plastic bins. Additional designs provide the flexibility and versatility to tag bins and containers of any size, shape or composition.
