Toronto-based Danier Leather Inc. , Canada’s largest retailer of leather clothing and accessories, has selected Truecount Corporation to pilot Truecount’s RFID software in three of its retail locations.

“Danier launched two stores in April and recently added an additional store,” says Zander Livingston, Truecount’s CEO. “The three stores will be used as pilots to evaluate RFID performance and quantify the return on investment.”Danier Leather sells its products through 89 Canadian shopping mall, street-front and large format power-centre stores and sees its heaviest business during the fall and winter months.

For Danier, an important factor in selecting Truecount for the Pilot test was the real-time replenishment feature. “When customers can’t find what they expect or are looking for, they may leave the store empty-handed,” says Livingston.“Therefore, it is important that items received from the distribution centers are placed on the sales floor as quickly as possible to reduce out-of-stocks and to ensure that every item is correctly represented. Truecount’s replenishment feature expedites this process and reduces human error.”

Phil Cutter, CIO for Danier, commented,“Truecount’s replenishment list simplifies the monitoring of what is on the sales floor and in the stock room at all times. As items are sold a replenishment list is automatically generated to move items from the stock room to the selling floor.”

In addition to Truecount’s RFID software, each Danier store is using Motorola Solutions’ FX7400 RFID readers and MC3190-Z RFID handheld computers.

“Retailers cannot afford to ignore today’s merchandising trends of increased inventory accuracy, visibility and replenishment,” said Mike Poldino, vice president of Data Capture Solutions, Motorola Solutions. “As we continue to develop innovative RFID solutions to grow adoption, we look to partners such as Truecount to build software that integrates seamlessly with our RFID hardware and provides the maximum return on investment (ROI) to retailers in the shortest amount of time.”

Livingston says it is too early to determine Truecount’s specific impact on Danier’s retail sales; however, it is expected that labor savings from faster inventory counts will add to the ROI.
