On July 1st, 2017, Canada will be celebrating its 150th anniversary and the nation will be celebrating throughout the land. One of the most innovative event that is planned to help celebrate, is a signature project called Canada C3. Canada C3 is a 150-day expedition from Toronto to Victoria, via the Northwest Passage, starting from the Atlantic coast and ending on the Pacific coast. What an incredible way to inspire a deeper understanding of our land, our peoples and our country.

This journey starts from Toronto on June 1st, will travel the three Canadian coasts over a period of 150 days and will end, in Victoria BC, on October 28, 2017. The Canada C3 expedition will take place in a former 67 metre (220 ft) Canadian Coast Guard vessel, the Canadian-flagged research icebreaker. This vessel has a distinguished legacy serving Canada and Canadians.
The 150-day expedition will navigate over 12,000 nautical miles, including the Northwest Passage, 
traveling 23,000 kilometres at sea, and exploring Canada from coast to coast to coast, over five months. The expedition will be divided into 15 legs ranging from seven to 12 days, each leg bringing a new group of participants on board to connect with communities and Canadians. Sharing experiences, stories and adventures, every day will bring growth and celebration of Canada’s past, present and future.
The journey will travel to breathtaking conservation areas, bustling cities, remote inlets and everything in between. Traveling through six ecozones, the participants will see everything from forests to tundra to sandy beaches. 
In coastal towns and villages, Canada C3 participants will meet with local community members to connect and share ideas about what Canada was in the past, is presently and can be in the future. In conservation areas, scientists on board will conduct research on how to best preserve the environment for future generations. In Indigenous communities, participants will meet with the local people to learn from the past and discuss reconciliation for the future.
At the beginning of each leg, participants will be given an RFID wristband which will be used to identify participants leaving the vessel for excursions and when they return. During each leg, as participants leave the vessel for various excursions, the RFID wristband will be used to identify who has left the vessel and who has returned. 
RFID will also be used to identify visitors, at different stops, who board and tour the vessel. Each visitor will be given an RFID badge which must be read once the visitor leaves the vessel.
For the RFID solution, Canada C3 looked to RFID Canada, Canada’s leader in RFID technology. The solution is designed around the high frequency ISO 15693 RFID and NFC standards. The wristbands, which have been designed by RFID Canada, are manufactured in Canada by MedTech a global leader in wristbands. The badges are designed and printed by RFID Canada. The software was developed by Bash Interactive, a Canadian software developer specialising in RFID / NFC solutions.
