Canada’s smartphone giant BlackBerry ($BBRY) now lets its smartphones pay at Canada’s favorite coffee store Tim Hortons using NFC with functionality built into Tim Hortons’  TimmyMe mobile phone app.

BlackBerry smartphone customers with the Blackberry Z10, Q10  and Z30 will now be able to use their smartphone to complete transactions at participating Tim Hortons across Canada and the US. This new mobile payment option is unique to BlackBerry 10 customers at this time and is the first such deployment of its kind, anywhere in the world.

Leveraging the speed and convenience of NFC technology that’s built into every BlackBerry 10 smartphone, Tim Hortons’ guests can register a Tim Card on the TimmyMe™ mobile app, then use their BlackBerry 10 smartphone to tap-to-pay to complete their order. Whether customers are grabbing their daily double double coffee or timbits, this fast and simple payment option offers a convenient payment alternative.

Tim Hortons’ knowledge and experience in the quick service segment coupled with BlackBerry’s cost-effective NFC technology solution delivers an implementation that stands out from many others.  Tim Hortons is using their existing secure infrastructure to deploy this mobile payment application.  This allows Timmies solid control over the deployment of the system and further opportunity to grow their best- in-class user experience.

Andrew MacLeod, who is the Senior Vice-President and Regional Managing Director North America, BlackBerry stated “At BlackBerry, we are continuously looking for ways to enhance the lives of our users and make them more productive while they are on the go. The Tim Hortons TimmyMe™ mobile app for BlackBerry 10 smartphones makes paying for the customer’s order fast and convenient, letting them get back to what they care about most.”
